Our mission is to teach, consult, demonstrate, and support the discipline of Permaculture Design worldwide. The Permaculture Education Center is a not-for-profit, international venture, created by some of the leading Permaculture teachers in North America.
We offer the official 72-hour online Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course and the Introduction to Permaculture Course, complete with tutoring and support from professional Permaculture designers and teachers.
Our courses are eligible for university course credits and continuing education credits. Our courses are also approved for Veterans VA and active military educational reimbursement benefits. All of our courses are accredited internationally by the Permaculture Research Institute in Australia.
Our teaching methods are interactive, creative and designed to provide a low-stress and enjoyable experience for students. Both the Introduction to Permaculture course and the full Permaculture Design Course follow the official guidelines for teaching Permaculture as directed by Bill Mollison. The PDC course follows the topics in Mollison’s book, Permaculture: A Designer’s Manual, the foundation text of Permaculture Design.
Students study at their own pace. There are homework assignments and activities that must be completed for each section of the course. The instructors carefully monitor progress and are available to assist students via email and phone when needed. Our instructors are professional, patient and supportive, and are focused on the student’s needs.
We also offer on-the-ground courses and workshops in Tennessee at our new Permaculture demonstration site and education center in Summertown, TN.

“After having discovered my life’s passion in Permaculture, there was the question of how to pursue it. I am so fortunate to have found this online course, which allowed me to become a certified PDC at my own pace. As a busy mom of young children, it was the perfect solution. The PermacultureEducation.com PDC course material condensed a lot of information that led me to new paths of understanding, encouraging me to look further and deeper into the subject matter. I learned to read the land, as it were, in the language that it spoke, and in a way that combined ancient, indigenous wisdom with the valuable resources offered by the sciences. I hope to use this new literacy in the service of the Creator, of life itself, as part of a community that strives to make the world a better place through designing landscapes that work symbiotically, providing abundance for all of its inhabitants. I am deeply grateful for the attentiveness and encouragement of my teachers who responded to each installment of homework with personal concern, guidance and praise. Their personal approach, I believe, is the primary ingredient that makes for the highest quality Permaculture Design education alongside a good curriculum, making it worth every penny.” – Sara Harding
“I was looking for a high-quality permaculture design course to take that would broaden my horizons but would fit with my non-traditional schedule. The online PDC offered by Nashville Permaculture and PermacultureEducation.com was exactly what I was looking for! The lessons were challenging and informative, not to mention well written, and I found myself immersed in the resources right away. The feedback from the instructors was quick and informative, helping me see areas I might want to concentrate on while sharing in the nuances of my particular site. My favorite aspect of this course was the collaborative feel from the instructors. They were always available with suggestions and were genuinely as excited about my site as I was. I would highly recommend this course and PermacultureEducation.com to anyone seeking a high-quality PDC course with maximum flexibility.” - Derek Kirbow, Ph.D., M.A.
“I have a love and passion for my newly found science of permaculture. I desperately wanted to take a PDC but with full-time job, building a homestead, and a brand new baby, I just could not spare 10-14 days in a row. After reading all the books I could find, I heard Jessica Enzo interviewed and liked her straight forward approach. Honestly, I remain a little uncomfortable with some of the more qualitative, political, emotive social justice aspects of some peoples’ permaculture courses. I wanted to learn the real science and methods. That is exactly what the PermacultureEducation.com online PDC supplied. The email exchanges were challenging and thought-provoking and gave me confidence in my own understanding to practically try the concepts learned. The time flexibility and low cost from PermacultureEducation.com made getting a PDC possible for me.” - Kevin Kilgore
“What impresses me most about this PDC is the quality of the instructors. The support was superb! It was obvious from first contact – the wealth of knowledge that they have. Anyone can go out and buy one of Mollison’s manuals, but knowledgeable insight offered in layman’s terms (when necessary) has been invaluable to me as a beginning Permaculturist. There was always just enough input supplied from the instructors to help me connect-the-dots on my own while encouraging my creativity. Also, all of the responses from the instructors were given in a constructive, build-you-up manner. This is the best online class I have taken to date and would recommend it to anyone!” - Amber Baker
